WHERE TO SHOP:

The main shopping areas in Formentera are Sant Francesc Xavier and Es Pujols, where you will find all kinds of shops and retail outlets.

Taking place in El Pilar de la Mola, and legacy from the hippie community living in Formentera since early 60’s, every Wednesday and Sunday during summer season La Fira de La Mola is held, a small market of typical handicraft products of the island.

BEACHES

Perhaps the highlight of Formentera are its spectacular white sand beaches and crystal clear shallow waters dotted with small rocky areas and surrounded by dunes that provide that air of unspoilt beaches isolated in nature as if it were a desert island. It is worth highlighting the various coves lined up along the coast of Ses Illetes Natural Park, perhaps one of the busiest areas of the island, and the beach of Levante, located on its east coast. Along the south coast 8 km of coves and small rocky zones shape Migjorn Beach, the most wild and natural, at the end of which lies the small beach of Es Caló d’es Mort. Also worth visiting are Cala Saona, on the west coast, and the beach of Ses Platgetes, the only sandy beach of the coast of Tramontana.

At the north end of the island, lies the island of Espalmador, a private island accessible during daytime by boat, a small strip of sea that separates it from Formentera, where we can enjoy the S’Alga and Sa Torreta beaches.

SUNSETS:

Formentera is a perfect place where to enjoy sunsets, either from shore or from one of the many bars that pay homage to it every evening. For this, we recommend going to Migjorn, Cala Saona or Ses Illetes beaches, where you can enjoy excellent views.

WAHT TO TASTE

In Formentera you may find a huge variety of restaurants, both international and autochthonous cuisine. We recommend some typical dishes from the island that you should certainly not miss, such as the local salad “ensalada payesa”, the calamari cooked in a traditional way “calamars a la bruta”, the octopus “fritada de pulpo”, and the fresh autochthonous fish such as “raor”, “roja” or “sirvia”. There’s also local paella with limpets which is worth trying.

As dessert, we highlight the “flaó”, “orelletes” and “greixonera” and as spirits an appetizer of “palo” or the digestives “hierbas ibicencas” and “frígola”.

WHAT TO VISIT:

Formentera is a very small island, only 19 kilometers separate La Savina port from La Mola lighthouse, connected both by a single road.

Every corner of Formentera is worth it, but we strongly advise not missing landmarks like the lighthouse of La Mola, the viewpoint, Cap de Barbaria, the tip of Sa Pedrera, Migjorn and Ses Illetes beaches or La Savina port, and the villages of Sant Ferran, Sant Francesc Xavier, Es Caló de Sant Agustí, El Pilar de la Mola and Es Pujols.
